New VM for PeopleSoft using VM template

Posted by appsinfo on December 27, 2015

How to create New VM for PeopleSoft using VM template on Oracle Database Appliance

Assuming we have already Download VM template from the Oracle Metalink, below are the following steps to follow:

1. Setting up a new VM from the template from the repository
 # oakcli clone vm DEVHCM -vmtemplate PSFT_PT_85415_TEMPLATE -repo devapprepo -node 0
2. Setting up the preferred node for the VM to start (node 0 in this example)
 # oakcli configure vm DEVHCM -prefnode 0
3. Below configuration will allow VM to start on the surviving node in an event the primary hosting node goes down
#oakcli configure vm DEVHCM -failover true
4. Once the VM is deployed use the below command to check the configuration
  #oakcli show vm DEVHCM
5. start the VM to confirm the template is valid and operational
#oakcli start vm DEVHCM
6. Validate the VM boot from the VNC console (use xterm to see the VNC console from oda_base)
#oakcli show vmconsole DEVHCM
(a) on the vnc console enter the IP,netmask, gateway and hostname details to configure the host network.
7. Setup the NFS configuration on the App VM (DEVHCM). Log in using ssh to the VM and run the below
  #chkconfig –level 35 portmap on
    #chkconfig –level 35 nfs on
    #/etc/init.d/portmap start
    #/etc/init.d/nfs start
8.Mount the /cloudfs as NFS mount on the App VM(DEVHCM). This NFS mount will be used to access PS media to install PS_APP_HOME on App VM.
#mount -t nfs -o rw 175.255.10.11:/cloudfs /d01 (you can also add the entry in the /etc/fstab if you need this permanently on VM and available on reboot)
9.set time zone and ntp server information on VM
(a)Edit the /etc/ntp.conf file and replace the server info as listed below
server timeserver.yourdomain.ca
(b)Set the timezone. To set the time zone remove or replace the current file /etc/localtime with /usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Eastern
10.If you need to change the vCPU & RAM for a machine then follow the below steps. The resource change will take effect on next reboot.
    # oakcli configure vm DEVHCM -maxvcpu 4
    # oakcli configure vm DEVHCM -vcpu 4
    # oakcli configure vm DEVHCM -maxmemory 8G
    # oakcli configure vm DEVHCM -memory 8G
11.Create database for HCM Application (HCMDMO)
# oakcli create database -db HCMDMO -oh OraDb12102_home1
