How to Implement TDE

Posted by appsinfo on April 3, 2018

Now that we have got the documentation to implement TDE. At high level we can follow below steps and mark these as check list during deployment or cut-over to production. Below steps are performed on EBS R12.2 on Solaris operating system.

Folks make sure you take full backup before importing the database including the binaries. A snapshot of entire stack is best option.

  1. Perform Pre TDE steps as per the Doc ID: 1926686.1
  2. Export complete database using data pump
  3. Create new empty database
  4. ENCRYPT the application tablespace
  5. Create and open the wallet
  6. Import the complete database using data pump to the encrypted tablespace
  7. Perform post TDE steps

HR Legislation Patch

Posted by appsinfo on March 7, 2010

HR Legislation Patch

The primary goal of post install stpes is to deliver seeded data. Seeded data consists of deduction and earnings elements, formulas, jurisdiction code information, balances, balance classifications, etc.  Without this you will miss basic entities such as the ‘Regular Salary’ and ‘Regular Wages’ elements.

To enable Country Legislation you need to register the country specific driver in your application. Once you have successfully installed Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1, you need register the legislation using following command.

DataInstall for hrglobal

$ java oracle.apps.per.DataInstall apps apps thin macaw:1553:uat

+————————————————-+

|             DataInstall Main Menu               |

1.    Select legislative data to install/upgrade

2.    Select college data to install/upgrade

3.    Select JIT or OTL to install/upgrade

4.    Exit to confirmation menu

      [N]      – No, don’t save but exit

      [Return] – To return to the DataInstall Main Menu

Install the Global legislation driver – hrglobal.drv

hrglobal.drv is the single source for installing and delivering the seeded legislative data. All legislation data is included in hrglobal.drv. However, hrglobal will only install what was selected from datainstall.

Set the Application Enviornment $APPL_TOP/APPS<Context_Name>.env

Apply $PER_TOP/patch/115/driver/hrglobal.drv to the database tier. Be mindful to only run the driver located in this directory..
hrglobal.drv driver should be applied as per a normal patch using the adpatch utility.

Once completed you have successfully installed your legislative HRMS data.

Confirm the forms from HR consultant after successfully apply the hrglobal driver.

DB Opatch

Posted by appsinfo on February 15, 2010

What is Opatch?

OPatch is a java based utility that allow the application and rolling back of interim patches to an Oracle product. The program has sub-commands that may take arguments. The program requires Java(JVM) to be present on the current system.OPatch expects users to have commands such as fuser, jar, ar and make on Unix platforms and jar on Windows platforms to be available in their PATH.

How to check the Opatch version?

$opatch version
Invoking OPatch 10.2.0.3.0

OPatch Version: 10.2.0.3.0

OPatch succeeded.

How to know which version is the correct version of Opatch for your RDBMS home?

You can verify whether the Opatch version for your RDBMS release is correct or not using metalink note ID 357221.1.

This note ID gives the copatibilities between OPatch version and RDBMS version.

How to get the latest version of OPatch?

You can download the latest version of OPatch from metalink using following URL.

http://updates.oracle.com/download/6880880.html

In the release dropdown you can select the OPatch release that you want to download based on your RDBMS version. Please read the README.txt before applying the patch.

What is Oracle Database Inventory and where it is located?

Oracle Inventory is the location or the place where all the information about an Oracle Home is stored and maintained. When ever we install an RDBMS Oracle Home, a new inventory gets created. Applying any new patch to Oracle Home will update the inventory for that Oracle Home and record the details for the patch applied. This inventory is in the form of XML files.

The location of inventory is defined in a file called oraInst.loc. The path for this file is provided while installing Oracle Home. If we dont supply any path, the file will be present at central location /etc/oraInst.loc. Also we can have a central inventory if its not used by any other oracle installation. If the central inventory is used by previous Oracle installation we can create local inventory. The content of oraInst.loc file is as shown below.

$ cd $ORACLE_HOME
$ cat oraInst.loc
inventory_loc=/u02/orauat/uat/db/tech_st/11.1.0/admin/oui/uat_eagle/oraInventory

Opatch help

You can get all the options using opatch -help

$opatch -help
Invoking OPatch 11.1.0.6.0

Oracle Interim Patch Installer version 11.1.0.6.0
Copyright (c) 2007, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

Usage: opatch [ -help ] [ -r[eport] ] [ command ]

command := apply
lsinventory
prereq
query
rollback
util
version

<global_arguments> := -help Displays the help message for the command.
-report Print the actions without executing.

example:
‘opatch -help’
‘opatch apply -help’
‘opatch lsinventory -help’
‘opatch prereq -help’
‘opatch rollback -help’
‘opatch util -help’

OPatch succeeded.

You can get specific help for any command of opatch using opatch <command> -help. Example opatch apply -help.

I will post an example on how to apply DB Interim and PSU patch shortly.

Splicing IZU TOP for Support Diagnostics

Posted by appsinfo on August 25, 2009

Splicing IZU TOP

For diagnostic patch you need to apply certain other patches and Splice IZU_TOP. Below are the steps that you need to follow while splicing the TOP.

1. Verify that the product is in the database or not

select APPLICATION_ID
       from fnd_application
       where APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME = ‘IZU’

2. 1. Copy the following text files from 3636980 to the admin directory under
   APPL_TOP.

        izuprod.txt
        izuterr.txt
        newprods.txt

Review newprods.txt and verify that the tablespaces listed exist
and are the ones planned for use by this product.
If changes are required, edit the file as appropriate and save it

3. Create tablespace

user_data
user_idx
apps_ts_tool—–create this table becoz this will throw an error
using adsplice

4. Run env and then adsplice

5. check
SQL> select APPLICATION_ID
  2         from fnd_application
  3         where APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME = ‘IZU’;

APPLICATION_ID
————–
           278

From within SQL*Plus, logged in as APPS, run the following:
        select STATUS
        from fnd_product_installations
        where APPLICATION_ID = 278;

   This statement should return one row:
   S
   –
   I
6. Set the IZU top in the evniornment file, echo and check the patch
7. Apply 3636980
8. Check the log files

9. Remove standalone RDA if installed into $IZU_TOP/bin/rda
   If you have previously installed RDA into the $IZU_TOP/bin/rda directory
   by manually extracting it from a zip or tar file, you should remove the rda
   directory and its contents from under $IZU_TOP/bin before applying the patch
   unified driver.

   Failure to do so could result in an adpatch error similar to this:

   Error: Applying rda.cmd to the wrong release:
    Patch  : /PATCH/7530017/izu/bin/rda/rda.cmd, v115.6
   On-Site: /u01/appltop/izu/11.5.0/bin/rda/rda.cmd, v1.4

10. Apply the following unified driver file with AutoPatch:
     u7530017.drv

11. Perform menu and/or responsibility setup as per Note 358831.1

Patch Register

Posted by appsinfo on April 11, 2009

Patch maintenance register

As an DBA you need to apply patches during implementation or support as when required by functional team or technical team or even application object library patches. You need to keep track of patches that have been applied, in this case you need to prepare patch register which will enable you to check for applied patches as on date. Below is the sample patch register. We will not be responsible for any patch failure or any impact on your current application what so ever.
